Who needs a highway sticker?

Who needs a highway sticker?

All two-track motor vehicles up to and including 3.5 tons must have a highway sticker. If the vehicle is towing a trailer and the total weight of the combination exceeds 3.5 tons, a vignette must also be purchased for the trailer. Exceptions may apply to vehicles with special status or holders of exemption certificates.

The obligation to have a valid vignette applies to driving on toll sections of motorways and expressways. These sections are clearly marked with traffic signs, so drivers should check in advance whether their route is on a toll road. If you drive without a valid vignette, you risk a fine that can be significantly higher than the price of the vignette itself.

Vehicles that may be exempt from paying the vignette fee include, for example, some state vehicles, health services or holders of a disability card if they meet the specified conditions. However, the exemption is not automatic - in most cases, the vehicle must be registered in the system in advance.

It is also important to know that vignettes are checked electronically using camera systems. These capture vehicle registration numbers and compare them with a database of paid vignettes. Therefore, there is no need to have a physical sticker, but it is all the more important to enter the data correctly when purchasing.

In conclusion, the obligation to have a vignette applies to most regular drivers. If you are not sure whether you are exempt, it is recommended to check the conditions in advance to avoid unnecessary complications and penalties while driving.
